Alumni Activities - Concordia University

I've never thought myself to be sentimental or nostalgic. But I've come to realize that you at times need to embrace your past to grow personally and professionally in the present. I guess this is the essence of proudly proclaiming yourself as an Alumnus of your alma mater.

The Concordia University Alumni Association officially launched a Washington DC chapter (CUAA DC) last night at the Canadian Embassy on Pennsylvania Avenue in DC. Click here for photos of the CUAA DC Inaugural Event. This event was the culmination of planning and hard work over two very fun dinners and countless e-mail exchanges by the Washington DC chapter executive including myself serving as Vice President of Communications. My fellow Alumni and now good friends serving on the Executive include: Thérèse Morin, MBA 86, Chapter President,James Byrnes, BA 97, Vice President of Programs, Lisa Morgan, BA 89, Vice President of Administration, Secretary and Treasurer, Zoran Kahric, BEng 97, Event Coordinator and Paul Tuscano, BEng 00, Event Coordinator.

I say now good friends because the one thing I've realized about fellow Alumni, we all share the same learning experience from attending the same University. So although we were not friends during University, it truly was an instant friendship situation as we all talked about common study places, professors, shared friends, campus hangouts, etc. But I believe for those attending Concordia, we also share the unique experience of living in one of the most interesting and cosmopolitan cities in the world - Montreal.

Most if not all the Alumni last night, I being the most pathetic exception, consider themselves to be bilingual or even trilingual (French being the second language for many).  Aside from the anglo/francophone angle, Montrealers come from an ethnic stock which includes Italian, Jewish, French, Greek, Lebanese, Polish, Ukrainian (and many other Slavic countries) and English. So I consider it no surprise many Concordians ended up in DC which matches Montreal's cosmopolitan makeup. It feels like home for many.

If you find this and you are an Alumni living in the DC area, visit the chapter's Web site at http://alumni.concordia.ca/washington or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
